B Corp
It’s easy to be bombarded by green claims and companies claiming environmental responsibility. That’s why B Corps were created, to help give consumers insight into who’s walking the talk. To become a certified B Corp we needed to pass standards for community, environment, consumers, employees and accountability, standards set by the leaders in the sustainable business industry. We’ve gone so far as to change our corporate charter to ensure that our Directors consider the impact we create in our community and the environment through our strategy and how we run our operations. |
Bullfrog Powered
100% of our electricity supply is sourced from wind power projects in British Columbia, procured by Bullfrog Power and fed into the provincial grid. By supporting the development of local renewable energy projects, Bullfrog customers are helping to bring more green power to the market and support an industry with potential to reduce our society’s reliance on fossil fuels. In March 2011 we also signed on to Bullfrog's Green Natural Gas program which transforms waste methane from landfill into usable natural gas.

Ancient Forest Friendly
Our business was born from the realization that 50 million standard gift baskets going into landfills, each and every year, creates more waste than good will. Knowing this ratio can be reversed, our perpetual cycle of gift-giving starts with sound packaging practices. We work with Canopy, the leading North American environmental non-profit working with the forest industry, to develop our standards. They’re leaders in saving old growth and valuable ecological areas by raising awareness of how we use paper. By using 100% recycled (95% post consumer) and reclaimed paper in our gift-box packaging, we’re proud to have accomplished a massive stride towards reducing our reliance on virgin fiber.

Climate Smart Business
Climate Smart runs informative workshops that help businesses measure their carbon footprint and develop strategies to reduce their impact through business operations. After completing one of their courses hosted by Vancity in the fall of 2009, we’ve started down the path to low-impact enlightenment. You can’t improve what you don’t measure and it’s our goal to minimize the carbon we generate for every gift basket we create. Our ultimate aim is to reduce emissions on a per gift basis. Stay posted for our progress!

One Percent for the Planet
1% For The Planet was created by Yvon Chouinard, founder and CEO of Patagonia, to encourage philanthropic donations from the business community to non-profit organizations. 1% of all our sales are donated to registered non-profit organizations and verified by third party auditors. Even better, you choose where the money goes. When you receive a Saul Good gift basket you have the opportunity to vote for one of three pre-selected charities in our ‘Gifts the Give Back’ program.

Strathcona Green Zone
On January 1st 2009 we relocated Saul Good to 614 Alexander St. in Vancouver, BC, at the heart of the Strathcona Green Zone. It’s a group of businesses, social enterprises and engaged community groups in Vancouver’s downtown eastside (DTES) that sees sustainability as key to success, for their individual businesses and the neighbourhood as a whole. The DTES is one of the most socially challenged communities in Canada and one of the poorest postal regions. This is an initiative managed by the Strathcona Business Improvement Association (SBIA) and its sustainability committee, which we’ve been members of since 2008.
We’ve co-located our business with Eclipse Awards, leaders in the green awards and recognition market. We see collaboration and the sharing of resources as more powerful forces than competition. We often host meetings for the various community projects we’re involved in our office or on our shared green roof deck.
